George J. Graf, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2017 surrounded by family and caring staff at Mary Washington Hospital ICU. George was born in Meisthof, Bavaria, Germany. In 1955, he immigrated to the U.S.A. Rochester, New York became his home. Volunteering was very important to George. He was a Gates Fire Dept. active volunteer for 36 years, as well as an usher at St. Helen Church. George is a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus Fredericksburg Council 4034. God always came first in George's life. He watched Mass every day on EWTN and led a prayerful life. He enjoyed family and friends, camping, traveling, gardening, dancing and WWE wrestling. George is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anna; son Joseph (Sandra); grandchildren Lauren and Michael; sister Babette Gallesdorfer (Germany); and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Hans Graf. George was known as the "quiet man." With a twinkle in his eyes, he had a smile for everyone. His family and friends have lost a dear, sweet and gentle man. A rosary service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 5 with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. at Covenant Funeral Service, 4801 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Fredericksburg, Va. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 6 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Fredericksburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 4034, 3724 Harrison Rd., Fredericksburg, VA 22407.
