MARTIN A ZIDEK

 

Martin Andrew Zidek, 84, of Fredericksburg passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, peacefully at his home.

Marty, a native of Pennsylvania, proudly served four years in the Navy before graduating from Duquesne University and moving to Virginia with his wife and children. After serving 42 years with various organizations in the federal government, Marty retired to frequent his condo in Florida and enjoy time with his family and friends. He spent his time shooting pool, playing fantasy football, entertaining his great-grandchildren, lounging by the pool, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Zidek; daughters Bonnie McAllister (David) and Cindy Montrief (Kevin); grandchildren Carolyn Woodson (Matt), Martin W. Zidek, and Lauren McAllister (Chris); great-grandchildren McKenzie and Parker Woodson; siblings Jerry Zidek (Joan), Mark Zidek (Patty), Cathy Straley, David Zidek, and Jim Zidek (Debbie); sister-in-law Abby Zidek, and numerous nieces and nephews. He joined his parents Martin C. and Catherine Zidek, his son Martin E. Zidek, and his brother Fred Zidek in heaven to root the Steelers on to the playoffs this year.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A Mass of Celebration will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Entombment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
