WILLIAM R HACKBARTH

 

William Richard "Bill" Hackbarth, 86, of Fredericksburg passed away Friday, August 10, 2018, at his home. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann Hackbarth; children William Hackbarth (Lisa), Margaret Hackbarth (Phillip Brooks), and James Hackbarth (Amanda); grandchildren Mary Hackbarth, Kevin Hackbarth, Alexandra Brooks, Spencer Brooks and Sophia Rose Hackbarth; brother Richard Hackbarth (Jackie); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Hackbarth. Bill Hackbarth was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly 1613. Prior to moving to Fredericksburg, he was a longtime member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Meriden, Conn. Bill was very active with his wife and family. In his earlier days, he was a little league baseball and softball coach and was known by so many in his hometown of Meriden. He was also a devoted sports fan and loved following the UConn Women's Basketball team and to also cheer on his children and grandchildren on the sidelines of local sporting events along with the other parents and grandparents. On the weekends, he enjoyed golf, fish, birdwatching and sharing these passions with his family. Bill most enjoyed Black Pond and Motts Reservoir. He enjoyed playing chess and poker and teaching his children and grandchildren how to play. Bill also enjoyed playing poker regularly with his friends. He was a fun-loving and gentle soul and will be missed by all. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 17 at St. Mary Catholic Church. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg before the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics local chapter or a charity of one's choice.
