Anthony “Tony†T. Azzato, 95, of Southport, died Feb. 9 at his residence.
He was born in Italy on Dec. 16, 1913, a son of the late Giovani and Carmella Pasquarialo Azzato. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Azzato.
He graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, with a degree in chemistry. He was a manager with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in South Philadelphia until his retirement.
He enjoyed and excelled in sports. He was a lifeguard. He played tackle for the semi-pro championship football team Passyunk Square. He won the light heavyweight golden glove boxing championship. He won the AAV Middle Atlantic Doubles Handball championship in the mid 1950’s.
Surviving are his daughter, Maryann Azzato; his son, John “Bud†Azzato and wife, Maryann; and four grandchildren. |
