I am deeply saddened to report that Brother Steve McAvoy passed away in his sleep last night.
Steve was an active member of our council for the past twenty years and you would often see Steve working council events along with his wife Pat. Steve introduced the St. Patrick's Day dinner twenty years ago and managed the events until his recent move to Indiana. Without question, the dinners have been a significant fundraiser, bringing in well over $20,000 since its inception.
Stephen McAvoy, 80, of Fort Wayne was born to eternal life June 3, 2021. Stephen was the son to Harold and Esther McAvoy of New Rochelle, NY. Stephen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maria McAvoy; children Kevin (Maria) McAvoy, Stephanie (Richard) Arcuri, Elizabeth (Joe) Ecklund, Cathy-O (Ken) Vandenberghe, Red (Karl) O'Keefe and Patrick McAvoy; and his17 grandchildren. He was devoted to his family, friends, and community. He was fiercely loyal, generous and compassionate; with a playful spirit that was felt by all. He was always ready for an adventure, a consummate practical joker and master of "the Sting." He enjoyed a successful 34 year career with General Motors. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46814; with calling one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or Multiple System Atrophy (support.multiplesystematrophy.org
