DANIEL MILLER Daniel "Dan" Miller, of Las Vegas, passed away July 28, 2014, surrounded in prayer by his family. He was born in Minot, N.D., in 1935 and was one of eight children. He graduated high school in Crosby, N.D., and served in the U.S. Army as an information specialist. He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated in 1957. Upon graduating, he moved to Las Vegas and in 1962 married the love of his life, Mary Jane (nee Michalec) Miller. Dan became involved in many aspects of the Las Vegas community, which expanded to the state of Nevada, culminating in a run for the U.S. Senate in 1974. He taught mathematics and coached basketball at Bishop Gorman High School, worked at the Dunes, Sands, Stardust and Tropicana hotels, and started his own business of over 40 years, Professional Tax Service. He was an honorary Basque member, and an active member in both the Knights of Columbus and the Viatorian Association. He helped in the building of both St. Viator Catholic Churches and the St. Thomas More Parish. His proudest accomplishment was his seven children, Andrew (Gianna), Valerie, Danielle, Michael (Nancy), Patrick (Jennifer), John (Jaclyn) and Megan (Nicholas Landis). Some of his passions included singing and being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his family. He lived his life full of faith, touching the hearts and hands of everyone he met. He is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Mary; seven children; and 19 grandchildren. Viewing and Rosary will be 3-7 p.m. Friday, August 1, at Palm Mortuary/King David Memorial Chapel, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 2, at St. Viator Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road.
