HAROLD PAUL MEYER

 

July 24, 1929 - November 11, 2020

Harold Paul Meyer, 91 years of age and a member of St. Jude Knights of Columbus Council 11293, passed away on November 11, 2020.

Harold was a member of the Knights of Columbus with 59 years of continuous service. He received the honors of the First Degree on October 1, 1961, followed by the major degrees on November 10, 1961 and the Fourth Degree on April 12, 1962. Harold was very active in the Knights, serving as a Grand Knight and later as District Deputy in the Houston area.

Harold was born July 24, 1929 to Henry Bernard Meyer and Matilda Cecelia (Krebs) Meyer in Cincinnati, Ohio. Harold proudly served as a communication expert in the United States Air Force from July 30, 1946 to May 9, 1949. He married Shirley Lou Kenning on June 24, 1950 in Newport, Kentucky. Early in his career he worked for North American Aviation on the Hound Dog cruise missile. Later Harold worked as an Aerospace Engineer for Boeing at NASA where he was involved with the space shuttle program. He was most proud of having had a part in several payloads aboard the shuttles.

Harold was a man with excitement for life who loved his wife and family first and foremost including his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved any kind of adventure and dreamed often of always trying something new. He water skied and taught his children to ski; he bought a camper and took his family camping. Harold loved to hike and explore the wilderness and study the stars. He always wanted to sky dive though never got the opportunity. At one time Harold owned a farm and even tried his hand at raising cattle. One of his fondest adventures was putting up a home on Canyon Lake and making it available to his kids and grandkids. Many special family hours were spent there with him, which made him so proud and gave his family many memories. He loved to cook different and exotic foods, he loved to study the paranormal and was always looking for Bigfoot. He collected coins, stamps, and every tool possible as he loved woodworking. Above all, Harold loved to fish.

He is survived by his children, Michael Anthony Meyer of Houston, Texas, Sandra Lee Stubbs of McKinney, Texas, and Paula Mary Trout and husband, Richard of Sugarland, Texas; nine grandchildren, Joe, Melonie, Jeremy, Harold, Erick, Allison, Patrick, Katie and John; 9 great-grandchildren and a host of other loving family and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley Lou Meyer and son, James Henry Meyer.

A funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday November 21, 2020 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 North Greenville Avenue, Allen, Texas 75002.
