John T. McCann, Jr. (Age 83)
A devoted husband, loving father, and a friend to all, died unexpectedly on November 30, 2020, at Sentara Hospital in Woodbridge, VA. He enjoyed running, sports, reading, history, politics, and, most importantly, spending time with friends and family while watching his grandchildren develop into the fine young people they are today.
John, of Montclair, VA, was a native New Yorker born in Manhattan, NY on July 10, 1937 to John, Sr. and Florence (Mullaney) McCann. He graduated from St. Ann’s Academy in 1956 and was a letterman on their track team. He served in the United States Army National Guard as an Ordinance Supply Specialist, and was honorably discharged. John attended St. John’s University as a night student while working full-time as a bank teller for Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company. He graduated from St. John’s University in 1965 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. John later served as a human resources officer for the Central Intelligence Agency and retired in 1997 after 30 years of service. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Career Achievement. After retiring, he worked as a contractor for The Smith Corporation supporting the CIA.
John is survived by his loving wife, Carmela (Albero), of 53 years; his brother Kevin, of Deer Park, NY; his three children: John T. McCann, III and his wife Aimee (Brawley) of Montclair, Kathleen (McCann) Hemmerdinger and her husband Cameron of Springfield, and Brendan McCann and his fiancé Megan Lesser of Manassas; his seven grandchildren: Meaghan, Kerry, and Aislinn McCann; Tessa and Kyle Hemmerdinger; and Ireland and Mallory McCann; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Jane (Carroll) McCann in 1963.
A private funeral service will be held; and a memorial service will be planned for 2021. Funeral arrangements to be handled by Mountcastle Turch in Dale City, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s memory to the American Heart Association |
