Philip J. Baker, 73, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Thursday at Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born in Altoona, son of the late William J. and Marie (Leap) Baker.
Surviving are two sisters: Patricia M. of Hollidaysburg and Teresa L. of Selbyville, DE; six brothers: Francis J. of Cibolo, TX, James W. of Zephyr Hills, FL, Charles A., Thomas G., and twin, Raymond, all of Hollidaysburg, and Joseph M. of Waynesboro.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Edward R. and John F.; and a sister, Margaret Hart.
Philip was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, Class of 1965. After serving during the Vietnam Conflict, he retired a Master Sergeant after twenty years of service from the United States Air Force as a comptroller. He then worked at News Printing Corp. in Claysburg for 21 years.
Philip was a past Grand Knight, Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea Council, and was also a 4th degree member of Bishop Garvey assembly, where he was a faithful navigator. Philip was a life member of the Air Force Association.
He was a life member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where he was active in the Men's Club and was a faithful worker at Green Lawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
Philip enjoyed delving into family genealogy.
At request of the family, a private funeral mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, Father Alan Thomas officiating. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Services by Sorge Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Barbara Zanker Fund c/o St. Michael's.
