November 18, 1935 - December 9, 2020 (85 years young). Charles passed peacefully at home, with his loving wife, Helaine (Legros) and his fluffy little Bailey by his side. Good friend and brother of George (Cathie), twin James (Florence), Herb (Patti), Ray (Marlene) and Ron (Sharon). Predeceased by brother Adam (Olive) and sisters Mary (Al), and Eileen (Ernie). Fantastic father to Susan (Gary), Sandy (Jeff), Kimberley and Christopher (Sheri), and stepfather to Christine (Eric), Denise and Bill (Christina). Adored grandfather of Colleen, Michael, Jacqueline, Jonathan, Kaylee, Jayden, Elle, Leah (Corey), Rachel, Nicolas, Jocelyn, Kiera, Kristoffer, Kyla, Jade and Amber and great-grandfather to Mikayla. Charles had a long and successful career in the steel industry, the majority of his time working for Gilbert Steel as Superintendent. Charles also thrived in retirement. He and Helaine made great memories wintering in Florida for 17 years, and even more years of memories on the shores of Lake Simcoe. Together, they loved to host their grandchildren each summer, and many grandchildren enjoyed winter warmth with them too. A man with a strong moral compass, and often a man of few words. As a father, he could give you a look, and you knew what it meant. He was a kind and generous soul, as well as a deep thinker. Not able to indulge in golf very much while working and raising kids, even though his parents George and Elizabeth (Lichtenwald) had converted the family farm to a golf course. Charles was finally able to dedicate some time to his golf game in retirement and achieved a hole-in-one in his seventies. Remembered for teaching his grandkids to catch and clean fish, one of Charles' highlights was his annual fishing trip with his brothers for most of his life. A lover of travel, some of his favourite trips were to China and a river cruise through Europe. When not fishing, golfing or gardening, Charles was often playing something - pétanque, bocce, poker, pick-up baseball, euchre or train (dominoes) with his grandkids. He will be dearly missed. A celebration of Charles' life will take place at some point in the future when we can all gather safely. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to your charity of choice. Cremation entrusted to Marshall W. Driver Cremation & Burial Service. Condolences may be placed at www.drivercremation.ca
