CHARLES B HAUSER

 

Charles Bernard Hauser, 92, a resident of Altoona Center for Nursing Care, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Saturday evening at the center.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles M. and Margaret (Doyle) Hauser. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Barbara LaRue Hetzel at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2018.
Surviving are two sons: Rick M. Hauser (Jody DeFore) of North Port, Fla., and Scott A. (Lesa Ann) Hauser of Venice, Fla.; a grandson, Adam (Hannah) Hauser of Huntingdon; and two sisters: Phyllis Hauser and Shirley Conlon, both of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Elaine Hauser.
Charles was 1946 graduate of Altoona High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal. While in school, Charles worked as a barber's apprentice at Cassidy's Barber Shop in Altoona. After returning home from his time in the Army, he began his career as a barber, working at Ross Lantzer's Barber Shop, Williamsburg. He later purchased the business and established Hauser's Barber Shop, where he served his customers for almost 60 years.
He was very proud of Williamsburg and was a member and served on the boards of many local organizations including the Williamsburg Lions Club, Williamsburg Jaycees, Bonner-Sollenberger American Legion Post 456, Williamsburg Memorial VFW Post 6086, Williamsburg Burial Association, Williamsburg Area Improved Dwellings and the Williamsburg School Board. He was also a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Hollidaysburg.
Charles was a longtime, active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Williamsburg, where he directed the choir and served as lectern. He truly loved and devoted his life to serving his family, church and community.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Williamsburg, Father Dennis Kurdziel, celebrant. Private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.
Memorial contributions in memory of Charles can be given to Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Company, 305 E. Second St., Williamsburg, PA 16693.
