COUNCIL #12022 - ST. ALBAN ROE REMEMBERS
JACK FRIES

John E. "Jack"'s Obituary
Fries, John E. 'Jack', baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection, Friday, June 12, 2020.
Beloved partner of Karen Everhart. Dear father of Craig Fries, Jason Fries, Jacquelyn Fries and Kristin Fries. Grandfather of Morgan, Devyn, Eden and Jackson. Son of the late John H. and Barbara Fries (nee Ruckh). Brother of Robert Fries, Susan Ferreira and the late Jeffrey Fries. Our dear uncle, cousin and friend.

Encouraged by a teacher to attend college, Jack earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Manhattan College, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University. He began his career as a project engineer, and continued as a financial and strategic analyst. Over the years, he earned increasing responsibility as a manager and a health care executive.

He retired in 2003 after fifteen years as Chief Executive Officer of St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco, California. His innovative efforts helped to ensure that the hospital continues to provide high quality health care to the San Francisco area, especially to the poor and disadvantaged. He was honored for this contribution to San Francisco by the city’s mayor, Willie Brown, with a Jack Fries Day.

Jack was a loving father and grandfather, who often reminded his family that Frieses “carry their own water”. He was a good friend. He enjoyed family vacations, woodworking, hosting dinners for family and friends, telling jokes (and otherwise encouraging people to laugh or smile), movies and reading. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, and was proud to participate in its charitable mission as a Fourth Degree Knight. He regularly volunteered his time with the Knights and other charitable organizations.

Services: A service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home an Crematory. Friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.
