BERNARD "BEN" JOSEPH CASSIERE

Bernard Joseph “Ben” Cassiere, of Sleepy Hollow, son of the late Helen nee Pawlowski and Joseph Cassiere, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2020, just shy of his 88th birthday. Bernard was born in Chicago, IL to Helen nee Pawlowski and Joseph Cassiere on April 2, 1932. He went to St. Genevieve and St. Mel schools in Chicago, IL, and attended DePaul University. Bernie was united in holy matrimony to Diana nee Hudgin on February 3, 1962 in Chicago, IL. He worked at Riverview, was a salesman for Chicago Gasket, and then was a stockbroker for Hornblower, Weeks, Hemphill, and Noyes; Merrill Lynch, and Prudential-Bache. Bernie was a member of St. Mel’s Choir, the Sandbar Boat Club, the PADS program, he was a Little League Coach, and he was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus for Council #6481 of Mount Prospect, IL. He was proud of his Catholic faith, his Italian and Polish heritage, enjoyed roller coasters, classical music, playing Bridge and other games, the theatre, reading, the Chicago Bears, camping with family, playing the organ, Jeopardy, Fox News, flavored coffee, and mint chocolate chip ice cream. Bernie was a good man who took the time to call you by name. Though in pain for many years, he was always pleasant and had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed.

Bernie is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diana Cassiere, his daughters Susan (Craig) Mazur, and Nancy (Paul) Kirkman, his sons Mark (Toinette) Cassiere, and David (Deanna) Cassiere, grandchildren Andrew and Alyssa Cassiere, Alexander and Joshua Kirkman, Sophie and Anna Cassiere, and his grand-puppy Amber Lynn Mazur as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and life-long friends. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Cassiere, his mother Helen Cassiere, his brother Gerald Cassiere, his Aunt Ruth Cassiere, Uncle Frank Cassiere, Uncle Joe (Celia) Pawl, Aunt Irene (Stanley) Dobesh, Aunt Felicia (Patrick) Cavanaugh, Aunt Esther (Leon) Walker, and Aunt Beatrice (Joe) Colvett, and his grand-puppy Nessa Rose.

Reminiscence with family and friends will be from 9-10 on Friday, February 21, 2020 in the narthex of St. Mary’s in Huntley, IL, immediately followed by a Memorial Mass.

Please do not send flowers. We would appreciate if you had a mass said in remembrance of Bernie as his body was donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois or send a donation in Bernie’s name to Highland Oaks Nursing home or Journey Care Hospice.

The family of “Ben” wishes to extend our sincerest thanks to the staff of Highland Oaks and Journey Care for the compassion they showed “Ben” and the rest of his family during the last weeks of his life.
