JOSEPH A. YORE

 

Joseph A. Yore, 81, beloved husband and father, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, of complications from cardiac arrest, in Hattiesburg, Miss. Mr. Yore was born and raised in Vineland and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, where he was class president during his junior and senior years. Mr. Yore attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating with a degree in architecture. He earned a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

During a distinguished 30-year career in the Army Corps of Engineers, Mr. Yore served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany and more than a dozen other countries, rising to the rank of colonel. He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism for his service in Vietnam, the Cross of Gallantry, Legion of Merit, and numerous other medals. He ended his military career as deputy division engineer for the Lower Mississippi River Division, based in Vicksburg, Miss. Mr. Yore was then an executive at the Walk, Haydel and Associates engineering firm in New Orleans for 10 years, before retiring with his wife, Cora-Ann, to Hattiesburg to be near their son, Michael, and his wife Rose Marie. In Hattiesburg, Mr. Yore was active in the AARP, the Osher Life-long Learning Institute at the University of Southern Mississippi, the Lion's Club, and many other civic organizations. He and his wife were members of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Mr. Yore is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cora-Ann; and three sons, Michael of Hattiesburg, Everett of Arlington, Va., and JJ of Los Angeles. He had three grandsons.
Services will be at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg on Saturday morning. Burial with military honor guard will be Monday at Highland Cemetery.
