COUNCIL #8240 - CHESAPEAKE COUNCIL REMEMBERS
LEONARDO "LENNY" PULIZZI

 

CHESAPEAKE – Leonardo P. "Lenny" Pulizzi, 61, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he is the son of the late Peter and Maria Ann Buscemi Pulizzi.

Lenny retired from the U. S. Navy in June of 1993 with almost 23 years of dedicated service as a Master Chief Petty Officer, during which he served four tours in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Conflict. He was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia at St. Brides Correctional Center from 1994 until 2001, and Norfolk State University from 2001 until the present. He was a member of St. Stephen Martyr Catholic Church , Grand Knight of Chesapeake Council 8240, Charter Grand Knights of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Council 11984, District Deputy No. 2, Virginia State Council General Program Director and worked through the chairs of state officers and became the State Deputy for the period of 2007-2008. He was a member of All Saints Assembly 2185, and the Virginia Special Olympics Board of Directors and participated in their annual Special Olympics Polar Plunge. He was also one of the co-founders in 1995 of the Single Friends in Christ Friday Fling Dance.

Lenny is survived by his beloved wife, Jean, who was his "Soul and Inspiration"; his three sons, Peter Michael Pulizzi and wife Kelly of Chesapeake, Va., James Matthew Pulizzi and wife Susan of St. Louis, MO, and Christopher Joseph Pulizzi of Norfolk; a brother, Natalie Vincent Pulizzi of Detroit, MI; two sisters, Josephine Angel Pulizzi and Maria Dominica Pulizzi Moore both of Windsor, MI; and his granddaughter, Kaylei Ann Pulizzi.

The family would like to thank all of their family and friends for their love and support, and especially his doctors, Doctor's Alberico, Mills, and Kwong, RN Charlotte Truxillo and the Sentara Hospice Team for providing Lenny the extra time he had to spend with his loved ones.

The Rosary will be recited in the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 6:00 PM followed by the Knights of Columbus Chalice Ceremony. The family will remain until 9:00 PM in the funeral home following these services to receive friends.

The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 9, 2014 in St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church. Reverend Fr. Brian Rafferty will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 3:00 PM in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Knights of Columbus Charity Incorporated or to the Virginia Special Olympics.
