VALERIAN L. HAUER

 

Valerian L. Hauer, age 88, of Owatonna died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 26, 2019. Valerian was born September 9, 1930 in New Market, MN to Jacob and Mary Hauer. He graduated from Lakeville High School and continued his education with 1 year of agriculture at the University of MN. He farmed with his father for several years before being called to the US Army from 1954-56. Valerian married Delores, the love of his life, on September 16, 1960 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Minneapolis.They farmed in Lakeville, MN until 1966 when they moved to Owatonna. Valerian continued to farm with his wife until 1992 when they semi retired. In 2009 Valerian and his wife fully retired and moved to town. Valerian was a long time greeter and usher at St. Joseph's Church as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Valerian is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Delores, sons Greg (Eydie) Hauer, Mark (Jodi) Hauer, daughters Patty Hauer and Janice (Joe) Zappa, 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Thomas Stepka of Lakeville, MN and many nieces and nephews. Valerian is proceeded in death by an infant, his parents Mary and Jacob, brother Donald and sister Jane. Valerian's family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice for taking wonderful care of our husband and father. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church 512 S. Elm Ave., Owatonna, MN with Father James Starasinich officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church in the gathering area. Burial will follow the service at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna. A KC Rosary will be said a half hour prior to the service.
