Oliver Davis, age 92 of Beckemeyer, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Carlyle Healthcare Center.
Mr. Davis was born on December 27, 1926, the youngest of Agnes and Earl Davis’ children. He served with the US Marine Corps in China during WWII and was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He married Leona Rose Hussman of Germantown Illinois on January 7th, 1948. They had three sons - David Davis (Ann) of Aberdeen, MS, Donald Davis (Carleen Caesar) of Beckemeyer, IL and Dean Davis of Swansea, IL. He also leaves behind a daughter-in-law - Audrey Davis; 13 grandchildren - Daniel Davis, Jessica (Jason) Wanger, Michael (Sarah) Davis, Hannah (Steven) Fraga, Sarah (Jeremy) Houchin, Laura (John Miller) Davis, Jeremiah (Mary Beth) Davis, Jedediah (Karri) Davis, Dameka Davis, Nathaniel (Emma) Davis, Darius Davis, Justin Davis, and Deja Davis; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Davis (nee Hussman), 2 grandchildren - Stanley Alfred Davis and Rebecca Davis, and one great-granddaughter - Emma Rose Davis. Two sisters - Vera (John Smith) of Lovington, Illinois and Grace (Paul Peppenhorst) of Beckemeyer and a brother, Alfred Davis of Zanesville, Ohio, also preceded him in death.
As owner and operator of “Davis Bus Lines” he drove three generations of children to and from the schools and school events of District 12 in Clinton County for 42 years. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 21, 2019, at St. Anthony's Church in Beckemeyer, with Fr. Chuck Tuttle, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle, and on Friday, June 21, 2019, from 9:00 - 10:00 AM at St. Anthony's Church in Beckemeyer. The Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary in Mr. Davis' memory on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at St. Mary's Church.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Davis are suggested to the Carlyle Healthcare Center and will be accepted at Zieren Funeral Home.
