THOMAS W. WELSH

 

Tom Welsh, St. Jude parishioner and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 11293 passed away on January 16, 2019 at the age of 79.

Thomas W. Welsh joined the Father Trecy Council in South Sioux City, Nebraska almost fifty-five years ago on February 23, 1964. He made his second and third degree on April 19, 1964. He had been an active member of St. Jude Council 11293 for the past several years.

He was born on July 13, 1939 to Benjamin and Lou Ellen (Hauswirth) Welsh in Sioux City, Iowa. Tom attended school in South Sioux City, Nebraska and graduated in 1958. Tom married Judy Persinger on November, 23, 1961 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They recently celebrated 57 years together.

He was a graduate of Sioux Falls University, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Tom was very involved
in the South Sioux City Community. He volunteered as a basketball coach at St. Michael’s School and was instrumental in
starting a youth football program. Tom worked for the Coca-Cola Company for many years and sold sporting goods but the
job he loved most, was as a drug and alcohol counselor for Gordon Recovery Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Judy Welsh, of 57 years; son, Don Welsh; daughter, Jeanne Axelrod; granddaughter, Keleigh
Axelrod, the sunshine of his life; sister-in-law, Janet Schones and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Welsh.
