RICHARD J ZELNOSKY

 

Richard J. Zelnosky, 85, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Shenan­doah, son of the late Teofil C. and Emilia (Mosckin) Zelnosky. He married Anne Marie Glova on Sept. 6, 1958.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: Scott R. (Sharon) Zelnosky of Hanover, Md. and Mark A. (Kiersten) Zelnosky of Altoona; six daughters: Diane M. (Dale) Gormley and Karen S. (Mark) Lynn, both of Altoona, Linda (Bill) McMahon of Wilmington, Del., Christine (Rich) McKeon of Duncansville, Kathleen Butler (fiance, Steve Gracey) of Bedford, and Jennifer (Mike) Strawmier of Altoona; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; a sister, Justine (Henry) Hilliard in Arizona; a sister-in-law, Agnes Zelnosky in Georgia; "adopted" son, Thanh Nguyen; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Ryan McKeon; and a brother, Teofil Zelnosky.
Richard graduated from St. Francis College with a bachelor's degree in business. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired as manager for the Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Newry. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a volunteer for St. Patrick Catholic Church and St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen.
Richard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fishing, reading and gardening.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry, Father Allen Zeth celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
