TOM THOMSON

 

Thomas H. Thomson passed peacefully on the morning of December 29, 2018. Tom was born June 14, 1941 as the first born son to Joe and Dorothy Thomson (Smits). He graduated from St. Norbert High School, went on to play semi-pro football for the Manitowoc Chiefs and then proudly entered the Marines from which he was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was married on May 30, 1966 to Nancy Boesen until she unfortunately passed in June 1977. He then later remarried to Kathleen Castelic (Bain) who was also a widower, they were blessed to enjoy 40 years of life together.
As a young child Tom began learning the family business and after returning from service he was extremely happy to have the chance to work next to his family members at Thomson Meats for many years. After retiring from the meat business he stayed busy with his friends at the De Pere Greenhouse delivering joy to others for a number of years.
Tom enjoyed hunting, with epic deer camps up in Eagle River and Pembine. There were legendary jokes and card games, which are now taking place in Heaven. Tom was also proud to have been a trustee for Our Lady of Lourdes for many years. Throughout his life he enjoyed being a member of the Holy Family Society, Knights of Columbus and being a part of the De Pere Lions where he was honored with the Melvin Jones award for Community Service. He enjoyed his years with the Wednesday night golf league at Hilly Haven, several hunting trips to Canada and Utah with good friends, Wednesday afternoon card playing and spending time with his morning breakfast crew.
Tom is preceded in death by his Father, Mother, his first wife, two Brother In-Law (Howard Nowak and Bernard Bain), a godson (Patrick Marx) and many others he held close to his heart.
Survivors include his wife: Kathleen Castelic-Thomson; Six Children: Brian and Mary Thomson, Eric Thomson and special friend Beth Cherny, Kim Thomson, Carl and Tricia Castelic, Nancy and Scott McCaskey, Laura Guevara; Eleven grandchildren: Libby, Jonah, Grace, Kariya, Maya, Addison, Gavin, Brooklyn, Emily, Katie, Quinn; Family Members: Dick and Julie Thomson, Joy Nowak, Julie and Mike Williams, Jeff Thomson and Marty and Diane Thomson and also the countless friends and extended family members that make life meaningful.
Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, De Pere from 4:00PM – 8:00PM Wednesday January 2, 2019. A prayer will be given for Tom at 8:00PM to bring the evening to a close. Visitation will continue after 9:00AM Thursday until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM with Fr. Benny Jacob O.Praem. and Deacon Mike Vander Bloomen officiating. Military honors to follow after Mass at church and burial to take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Ryan Funeral Home, De Pere is assisting the family.
