COUNCIL #10370 - ST. JOHN VIANNEY REMEMBERS
LEVERNE JONES

Passed away suddenly and peacefully on December 15th 2018 while at the annual “Jones” family Christmas gathering, and while on a nature walk with his daughter, Karen. Awaiting his return was his beloved wife Mary (nee Rutherford), who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past spring. Mary was surrounded by their loving family, including children Ian (LeeAnne), Brian (Sandy), Karen Morrow (Greg), Eric (Denise) and Peter (Nicole). Leverne was an adoring grandfather to Alexandria, Christine, Jeremy Morrow, Katie Morrow, Jason, Kristen, Laura, Emily, Spencer, Andrew and Madison, most of who were attending the Christmas gathering. Leverne meant the world to his younger sister Bernadette, late brother Paul (Brigid) and brother John (Hilda) all of Peterborough, Ontario where Leverne was born and raised by his parents Frances and Bernard Jones. His large extended family included in-laws, Dick Rutherford (Marcie – predeceased), the late John Rutherford (Maureen), the late Pat Murphy (Jean) and the late Jim Macpherson (Betty). Leverne leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends, including his bridge, golf & curling buddies- all important people in his life’s journey. Leverne was a devoted Catholic who, throughout his life, tirelessly supported his Church community and gracefully and humbly drew strength from his faith. Leverne graduated with a Hon. B.Comm from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish in 1956 and later from Queens University’s Masters of Education Program. Leverne first began teaching in Peterborough and ultimately completed a distinguished 25 year career with Ontario’s Ministry of Education while living in Sudbury, he retired in 1992 and made Barrie his retirement city. Leverne was a man of great intellect and quiet conviction and had a passionate pursuit for knowledge and understandings. He loved his many years going to “camp” on Lake Kawigimog (just south of Sudbury) to enjoy family and friends. As per Leverne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends may be received at the JENNET FUNERAL HOME, 152 Bradford St. Barrie, on Thursday, December 20th, 2018 from 2:00pm-4:00pm & 7:00pm-9:00pm. There will be a mass held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, on Friday December 21st, 2018 at 11:00am. Reception to follow. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Busby Centre. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.funeralhome.on.ca
