WILLIAM HART HAGAN

 

Hagan, William Hart, formerly of Dayton, Ohio passed away April 14, 2018, his 89th birthday, in his home in Roswell, Georgia with his family by his side. He was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on April 14, 1929. He graduated in 1951 from Notre Dame University. During his college years he met his bride, Mary Ellen, on a blind date while she was attending nursing school in Elgin, Illinois. They married October 20, 1951, where his Korean War assignment was delivered to their wedding reception. After 2 weeks of marriage, he left for Japan, where he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the USAF as a hospital superintendent. He returned home 18 months later to his bride and firstborn daughter, Linda. He then followed in his father's footsteps by working at Sears Roebuck & COMPANY for almost 40 years. Upon retiring, he took his love for travel and worked with NCR as an International Retail Consultant. He then became the Dayton chapter president and board member of the Atlanta based cultural exchange program, Friendship Force International (FFI). He set up numerous chapters for FFI throughout the world, which earned him the prestigious Wayne Smith Award, recognizing his leadership and dedication to world friendship.

His hobbies included scuba diving, photography, magic, enjoying a good glass of wine and traveling with his family and friends. He valued his many friendships made around the world, hosting many at their home in Ohio. He was instrumental in the establishment of the St. Leonard’s Faith Community in Centerville, Ohio and treasured this circle of friends. He was a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Club, Agonis Club of Dayton, Knights of Columbus, and The Society of American Magicians. He truly enjoyed his last few years in his home at St. George Village, as he was blessed with the love of many friends. Most importantly, Bill's life was dedicated to his family, and this dedication he passed down to his 5 children and their spouses.
