FRANCIS J SMITH

 

Born in Hoboken, NJ on October 22, 1942, Frank was raised and educated in Hudson County, NJ. He graduated from Providence College with a degree in Economics and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Economics from Trinity College. Frank was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served his country as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in Virginia, North Carolina and overseas. He spent much of his career working for Pfizer, first as a Buyer in the Gronton, CT plant before moving his family to Southport where he would become Purchasing Manager and Material Manager. Frank was a man of faith. A devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, he served on the Parish and Finance Councils as well as volunteered as a religious educator for children and teens. He also believed in giving back to his community.

Frank coached the Dixie Youth baseball teams for 10 years, served on the Board of Adjustments for Yaupon Beach and Oak Island for 15 years and acted as a Director on the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce. Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as an avid golfer. He will be remembered as someone who had a truly kind and joyous spirit- one that earned him friends throughout his life. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia; sons Jeffrey and David; grandchildren Holden and Sawyer; and treasured dog Bubba.
