SK Tighe received the 1st degree in March 1950 and was an Honorary Life Member of Montgomery Council. He took the 4th Degree in 1964 and was a member of the Sullivan Brother Assembly 2861. His lengthy service to the Knights included Faithful Navigator of the Assembly.
Alfred J. Tighe, Jr. died September 16, 2018, at his home in Rockville, Maryland with his beloved wife of 67 years Vivian LaCroix Tighe by his side. Loving father of Mary Elizabeth Tighe (Brad Reese), Claudia LaCroix Tighe (John Stahr), and Michael John Tighe (deceased). Dear grandfather of Sarah Elizabeth Reese (Elliott Rosenblum), Michael Thompson Stahr, and Eric LaCroix Stahr. Mr. Tighe is also survived by loving nephews, nieces, and their children, and many friends.
Mr. Tighe was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts on September 11, 1925 to Alfred J. Tighe, Sr. and Frances (McSweeney) Tighe. He was a proud graduate of St. John’s High School (Worchester, MA - Class of 1943), Boston College (Class of 1950), and Georgetown University Law School (Class of 1954). From 1943-1946, Mr. Tighe served as Navy Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class on troop ships in the South Pacific. On June 23, 1951 he wed Vivian LaCroix of Marlborough. They made their home in Washington, D.C. and later in Rockville, MD where they raised three children. Mr. Tighe had a long and accomplished legal career including the U.S. Interstate Highway Laws Project, that wrote the laws governing the U.S. interstate highway system, and legal practice associated with the telecommunications and energy regulations across the country. Mr. Tighe practiced law until the early 2000s, appearing before numerous courts including the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Tighe was a faithful member and usher at St. Mary’s Church since 1957. He was an active member of both the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, including serving as a Faithful Navigator of the 4th degree. He played league baseball in Massachusetts and Rockville, never really hanging up his glove playing with his children and grandchildren. A proud Irishman, he was a man of great principle, always with a smile and an outstretched hand. He will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune of crossing paths with him in life’s journey.
Please pause to pray for the repose of his soul, and in support of Lady Vivian and the entire Tighe family.
