Establishment of the John P McManamen Council No. 6905
Knights Of Columbus – Council 6905 was instituted March 20, 1977 at Christ the King Parish, Evergreen, Colorado with 51 charter members.
Any history of the John P McManamen council would be incomplete without mention of The Stewards Club - an organization of men that was the pre-cursor to Council 6905. The Stewards Club organized bi-monthly pancake breakfasts as well as Bingo events in Denver to benefit Our Lady Rosary Academy. Their benevolence was a direct lead to our continued charter of charity through the Knights of Columbus.
John P. (Pat) McManamen, a brother Knight, was the past president of The Stewards Club and passed away in January, 1977. In anticipation of the founding of Council 6905, election of officers took place on March 14, 1977. Installation of the new council took place on Sunday, March 20, 1977 with the exemplification of degrees and a knighting ceremony by State Deputy Thomas H. Cavanaugh. The ceremony occurred at a special mass celebrated by Msgr. Hoffman, followed by a banquet. Over 200 people took part in the events of the day. Fifty-one brother Knights appear on the original charter, 26 of whom were newly initiated.
Initial activities of the council included a Las Vegas night, Mother–Daughter Communion breakfast and parish construction activities of good will. Activities that Council 6905 has continued over the years include projects to clean highways, pancake breakfasts, and fundraising for the mentally handicapped. We have been very active in many parish activities including the parish picnic and annual garage sale.
