FRIDAY LENTEN FISH DINNERS CONTINUE THROUGH LENT
Lenten Fish Fry
Ash Wednesday February 18 marked the beginning of Lent and that means most everyone is giving up something but we hope it’s not working the Friday Lenten Dinners. Luis Hernandez will be chairing the event and I will co-chair with him. The menu is the nearly the same. This year we are offering a soup and salad meal. It will be a choice of clam chowder or minestrone with a salad The Lenten dinners begin on Friday, February 20, 2015 and serving time is from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
The following timeline is a breakdown of the shifts:
3:00 pm - set up tables and chairs and begin the food preparation.
4:30 pm – set up serving lines and serve meals, bus tables, empty the trash, keep the ice tea and lemonade containers full. We need back up to keep hot food on the serving line and we need to keep up with the pots, pans (washing), and other needed utensils and containers.
6:30 pm – need a crew to start cleaning up in the kitchen and be ready to provide back up help where needed. At 7:30 or when people are finished eating we need to take down tables and chairs and clean up. We also need to set up the Assembly Room with the normal arrangement of tables and chairs.
If your family comes in and you want to have dinner with them, by all means do so, but please be sure that you are not leaving the work crew shorthanded. And let someone know what you are doing, in case we have an emergency and need your help. We are asking the spouses or significant others of you Knights to bring a cake, pie or some item for dessert every Friday if possible or at least once. The toughest part of the dinners is the clean up. Please, before you leave check to see if you are needed. Granted some of you will have been there since the beginning, and it is understandable if you are tired because being on your feet is very tiring over long periods of time. We ask that some of you come, at 4:30 pm or 6:30 pm and stay until all the work and clean up is completed. Nobody loves to clean up but it has to be done. Think of your brother, who just might be a little more tired than you.
Together we can do an even better job then last year. If you have a problem or question, Luis will be available to help you. If you run out of something let him know, because he is the one making the purchases of supplies and if he doesn’t know he can't get extra product to cover the shortage in the following weeks. Luis will be available the majority of the time during the dinners. Also, if you have a complaint let him know. Now if you have a compliment, then tell me.
And finally please take a moment to visit this website's "Members List" and update your information. When you do familiarize yourself on what can be posted on the website. It will be a good tool for us to use and will be a wealth of information about the council’s happenings. We’re looking forward to a successful project and thank you all for all that you do.
God bless you all and your families.
