Here I am Lord

My Brother Knights of Virginia,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your State Deputy for the fraternal year. The jurisdiction of Virginia has a legacy of strong leaders who embraced and promoted the guiding principles of the Knights of Columbus: charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. I will do my best to follow in my predecessors’ footsteps and continue Virginia’s proud tradition of being the best jurisdiction in the Order.

I have chosen Here I Am Lord as this year’s state theme to remind us that we must allow God’s will to guide us in our good works. As Knights, we have answered God’s call to service. As Knights, we follow the messages of Psalm 40 and Psalm 91 that tell us that we can come to God in faith and say, “Here I Am Lord,” because we know He protects us always. And as Knights, we protect and support all those in need just as the angels sent by God protect us.

During this fraternal year, we must continue the Supreme Council’s Leave No Neighbor Behind program that was launched in response to the COVID-19 virus. Ask your pastors how you can help with cleaning regimens and seating parishioners at Masses. Look for ways that you can help families and organizations that have been impacted by the virus. With the economic downturn, food pantries and food kitchens need our help. Let’s also keep in mind our two state charities, KOVAR and VKCCI. Both organizations saw fundraising efforts hampered by the disease and its resulting lockdowns. Consider making a donation or holding a fundraising event that benefits one or both of our charities.

God needs the Knights of Columbus now more than ever to carry out His will in the world He created. Without a doubt, I know that every Virginia Knight will answer God’s call and inspire others to say “Here I am Lord” and join our Order.

I wish all of you the best as we embark on this new fraternal year and hope that you, your families, and loved ones remain safe and healthy.

Fraternally,

Brian M. Ripple

Overseas Coupon Program

The Sir Knights of Father Edward L. Richardson SMA Assembly #3174 of the Fourth Degree thank you for your support of the Overseas Coupon Program in which we periodically send coupons to Wiesbaden Army Base in Wiesbaden, Germany, for use at Post and Base Exchanges and Commissaries.

We continue to solicit your contribution of MANUFACTURER'S coupons (both food and non-food).

A few guidelines:

  • Manufacturer's coupons only. No restaurants, grocery stores, etc.
  • Pay attention to expiration dates. Coupons used on the base are good for six (6) months after the expiration date.
  • Please separate the coupons into “food” and “non-food” categories. If you eat or drink it for a meal or snack it's food. Vitamins, medical products, etc., are non-food.
  • Due to overwhelming volume, coupons that are not separated into the proper categories will NOT be accepted.

During calendar year 2017, we sent more than $60,000 in coupons to help our folks in uniform, and are running well ahead of that pace this year. Please continue to help with this good work.

Fraternally,

Jim Limbach PGK, FDD, PFN

Support KOVAR

Support for KOVAR. In March it became apparent that the Pandemic was going to significantly impact many Virginia Council's ability to do what Knights normally do to help our parishes and communities. Councils across Virginia have been limited in their normal KOVAR fundraising activities.

As of June 1, 2020 KOVAR donations total $213,692. Average donations to KOVAR the four previous years was $499,000. Average grants awarded those same years was $510,000. KOVAR, like many charities, is in need of help.

Brothers who are able are encouraged to go to the KOVAR Donation Link and make a personal donation - http://kovarva.org/donate/. Please add you are affiliated with Council 7165.

You can also visit the KOVAR Facebook page and see a message from the President of the KOVAR Board of Directors at https://www.facebook.com/kovarva.
