Fr. Matthew McCaughey Farewell Letter

Dear Brother Knights:

At my farewell Mass and reception I received a glass trophy from the council to mark my time with you. Etched in the glass it says, “Some people come in your life as blessings, others come in your life as lessons. You have been both.” Thank you for this token of your appreciation. I will proudly display it in one of my three offices.

Thanks especially to all the members of Council #5530 for the strong and faithful example you have given me these three years. I speak not only from observation, but from the personal impact you had on me. It was because of Council #5530 that I am a member of the Knights of Columbus. While I was a seminarian and worked in different parishes around the diocese, I was never asked to be a Knight of Columbus. It was only when I was assigned at St. Thomas More that someone personally invited me to join. I am grateful for that invitation, and the invitation to further my commitment by becoming a 3rd degree Knight this year.

Even though there are two KC councils where I am going, I would be happy if together they were half as engaged as you are. Thank you for giving me the inspiration to join this fraternal organization.

Your Brother Knight,

Fr. Matthew McCaughey
