Holy Cow Steak Cook-Off April 27th

Wine Pull

Exciting New Feature of

Holy Cow Steak Cooking Contest

Saturday April 27, 2019

The wine pull will feature 150 bottles of wine, red and white, wrapped in brown paper bags and tagged with a number. Each bottle will be valued at $20+. Amongst the collection of wines, there will be bottles valued of upwards of $100 which will act as an incentive to clients to purchase a bottle. These “special” bottles will be heavily marketed to induce sales. Customers who opt to participate will pay their $20 and be allowed to draw a numbered cork from a bucket of corks. The number on the cork will match a number on a bottle tag. Customers will only know what type of wine they have purchased after removing the bottle from the bag. For the customer, it is a win/win scenario because of receiving a bottle of wine that at the very least, is valued at $20.

Consecration of the Holy Family

Consecration to the Holy Family

FAITH IN ACTION - The Feast of the Holy Family, celebrated on Sunday, December 30, is a solemn occasion and a call
for all Catholic families to look to our model family. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, to bring our families fully alive.
At each mass on December 30, families of Holy Spirit will have the opportunity to willingly be
consecrated to the Holy Family with a special prayer.  In preparation for a Consecration to the Holy
Family, your family should not only decide to dedicate itself to the Holy Family’s intercession but also acknowledge that the family is sacred.
The decision to consecrate your family needs to be intentional and a process through which you
completely surrender to God through the Holy Family. You are accepting the truth that
salvation history was changed forever by a family, and that through your domestic church,
you are called to live their example.

Four suggested steps before praying the Consecration to the Holy Family:
1 Discuss the importance of this consecration as a family
and why you are doing it.
2 Each member of your family is strongly encouraged to go
to the sacrament of reconciliation.
3 As a family, intentionally choose something to fast from.
The fast can be for at least a week. As our physical bodies
are drawn to things of the world, it is strongly encouraged
that you fast from something that you would normally do
or consume. Fasting helps to discipline our minds and
hearts to refrain from secular activities and be more focused
on God.
4 Prepare for the commitment you are making. Consecration
to the Holy Family is not a single event. You have chosen
a way of life for your family. You and your family are
consciously choosing to be a beacon of light of God’s love
through his Church.

Coats for Kids

What is it about Coats for Kids that has the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus involved? Is it the brand new coats themselves? Their soft and colorful lining that keeps kids warm and cozy? Could it be the hoods that offer built in protection from wind and snow? Maybe it’s the water repellent shell that beads up water so kids stay dry, or the coat’s deep pockets and machine washable fabric.

The bottom line is that giving a child a new coat positively impacts that child’s self-esteem and self-worth.  The impact on kids that receive coats from The Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids Program is dramatic, as evidenced by heads held high, smiles, and fewer missed days of school because of illness. That is what the Knights were considering when they donated the coats.

Coats were distributed Oct. 31 at DeNeuville Learning Center and Catholic Charities in Memphis. Knights representatives on hand included Tim McNeive, Grand Knight, Knights of Columbus Holy Spirit Council 15196, along with fellow Knights and their wives: Mike and Linda Heitzman and Mike and Nina Pietrangelo.

The Knights of Columbus Holy Spirit Council 15196 participated this year in Coats for Kids to bring warm (new) coats to children in Memphis and Shelby County who may not have had a warm coat for the cold months ahead.

Thanks to our Knights of Columbus Holy Spirit Council 15196 for their generous gifts of coats this year!

Knights Children's Book Drive Nets 400+ Children's Books

Knights Children's Book Drive Nets 400+ Children's Books

Donations of more than 400 new and gently used books appropriate for ages Pre-K through 8th Grade were collected by the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus during its April children’s book drive.  The idea for the drive came from a suggestion by Holy Spirit parishioner Larkin Myers. “I’m a mother and had books that my children had outgrown.”, said Larkin. “I thought there might be other families who had books too and that the donations might be welcomed by Memphis area schools or hospitals, but I didn’t know where to begin”.  In March, Larkin was put in contact with Knights of Columbus Holy Spirit Council 15196. A collection site was organized in the church. Then through notices in the parish bulletin, and an outreach campaign to neighborhoods adjacent to the parish, the book donations literally flooded in. The books have been distributed to local schools in particular need, St. Michael’s Elementary School and Sherwood Elementary School. The principals at both schools were absolutely elated at the generosity of these book donations. “The Knights of Columbus is thrilled to have partnered with Larkin in this campaign to bring her idea to reality”, said Joshua Boss, Grand Knight for K of C Holy Spirit Council 15196. “We hope others will reach out to us with their charitable suggestions in support of our parish and the community”.
