What’s New at Deborah Heart and Lung Center

Deborah Heart and Lung Center is a nationally recognized “Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital” by Truven Health Analytics, as well as being a 2017 “Get with the Guidelines Silver Plus” designated Hospital by the American Heart Association, and also a “4-Star Rated Hospital” by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Some recent Deborah highlights:
Education Leaders
➢ Deborah Cardiac Interventionalists Richard Kovach, MD; Kintur Sanghvi, MD; Vincent Varghese, DO; and Daniel Ice, MD were among the nearly dozen Deborah presenters at New Cardiovascular Horizon’s Comprehensive Cardiology Symposium held in Atlantic City. This prestigious annual event brings together top-tiered specialists sharing the most cutting-edge knowledge in cardiovascular medicine.
➢ Deborah President and CEO Joseph Chirichella was one of the featured speakers on a Hospital CEO Panel "Navigating Healthcare: South Jersey's Healthcare Forum for Business Leaders" sponsored by Rowan University and the Burlington, Camden, & Gloucester Counties’ Chambers of Commerce, and the Southern New Jersey Development Council. Panelists included AtlanticCare CEO Lori Herndon; Cooper CEO Adrienne Kirby; NJ State Health Commissioner Cathleen Bennett; Inspira CEO John DiAngelo; Kennedy Health CEO Joseph Devine; and Virtua EVP & COO Michael Kotzen.
➢ Deborah’s Richard Kovach, MD was named Clinical Section Editor on Carotid Disease for the professional journal Vascular Disease Management. Dr. Kovach will bring together experts in the diagnosis and management of obstructive disease, as well as case reports, tools and tips for carotid intervention and stenting. These articles will be exceptionally useful to other carotid interventionists in the field.
Community Outreach
➢ Deborah has a medical office building -- valued at $21.5 million -- currently under construction on its campus in Browns Mills. It is slated to be open by spring of 2018. Built on the space previously occupied by the Elichman Pavilion, the new construction by TN Ward will bring a modern, three-story, 60,000 sq. ft. medical building to Deborah’s campus. The building will be owned by Landmark Healthcare Facilities LLC of Milwaukee, and leased to Deborah as well as independent community physicians. The building will bring much-needed medical services to the region, including Urgent Care, Diagnostic Imaging, and Family Medicine, as well as an Ambulatory Surgery Center, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy, Pain Management and a Sleep Center.
➢ Deborah partnered with the Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) to sponsor two Summer Meals sites this summer in Mount Holly and Browns Mills. The sponsorship ensures that children at both sites receive healthy lunches all summer. With the continued support of such corporate partnerships as these, FBSJ will effectively reach their goal to deliver half a million meals to 8,000 children during the 2017 summer season.
Medical Innovation
➢ Deborah is excited to offer patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) the new WATCHMAN™ implant, which is a left atrial appendage closure device. By closing the left atrial appendage in the heart, patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) now have an alternative to long-term warfarin medication therapy.
➢ The WATCHMAN Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) Implant is a breakthrough for AF patients by closing off the left atrial appendage to keep dangerous blood clots from entering the bloodstream and potentially causing a stroke. This onetime procedure paves the way for AF patients to stop taking warfarin.
