2019 - 2020

Maco Amoyo

Our Knight of the Year is a long-time member who has been very active yet somewhat invisible. He is the one that reminds us that we are not just here to work, but that we are here to enjoy the benefits of associating with others who share our beliefs and enjoy the social benefits. He has been the pillar responsible for a Principle of our Order: FRATERNITY. Without his efforts, life in the Knights of Columbus might be fulfilling, but dull and maybe even boring.

Thanks to his talents and his efforts, Knights can enjoy a variety of social events such as: Christmas Party, Bingo, a trip to the casino, sporting events, Happy Hours, and more. He has been planning and leading social events for several years so that we can enjoy the benefits or Fraternity.

Congratulations go to our “Cruise Director”, Maco Amoyo, and thank you for all the enjoyment which you give to the members and the families of Council 11716.

2018 - 2019

John Martens

Our 2018-2019 Knight of the Year is Sir Knight John Martens, who has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 32 years and shows great involvement and commitment to the Order. His service is highly appreciated.
John is a Fourth Degree member. He has served as the Grand Knight for two years, and has continued his faithful involvement in Council 11716 activities. He served as the Council Trustee for the past three years. John has taken an active role in the Member Retention Committee and regularly attends the monthly Business and Planning meetings. He enjoys being part of the regular dining room staff at the monthly breakfast, and is one of the chief coffee makers.
As an active participant in meetings and events, John has much to offer because of his vast experiences. He is always one the the first to also ask, "How can I help?" In other Knights activities, he is a Faithful Captain in the Fourth Degree Assembly 3642 and was the first one to order the new uniform. He is also a District First Degree Team Captain where he assembles the degree team and participates in the monthly initiation ceremony.
John is also involved in the Prince of Peace Catholic Community. He is a Coordinator of the Eucharistic Ministers, where he is usually in charge of the ministers at the Sunday 8:00 AM Mass. Further, he serves in the Prison Ministry, where he brings the Word to those who are incarcerated.
John Martens is much deserving of the 2018-2019 Knight of the Year Award. Congratulations.

2015 - 2016

Bill Weber

Bill is a Fourth Degree Knight and involved in many activities including CRHP, That Man Is You, food events, pro-life and where ever and when ever needed. However, he is mainly known for his work with the Global Wheelchair Mission. When this mission was presented to the council in 2012, the council proposed to buy one wheelchair for $150. Bill knew that was not acceptable and had a discussion with Father Jim about the importance of this mission and they planned pulpit talks after masses for two weekends to generate attention. The donations totaled over $15,000 that first year. The donations grew each year and during 2016 they totaled over $64,000. For the six year period the donations totaled $238,000 for just Prince of Peace....number one in Texas and number one in the entire USA. A quick update, for 2017 the donations from Prince of Peace were over $90,000 and for 2018 the total is just over $100,000!
