Michael Ashby

Sir Knight Mike Ashby. Mike has worked all six Fish Fry’s and Spaghetti Dinner. Mike, working with Mike Potts, became a well-oiled machine assembling pre-ordered meals for take-out. Mike has chaired the Council’s soup sales making many deliveries and meeting people picking up their orders. In the past year, Mike was a frequent volunteer with the Claymont Coalition of Churches Food Distribution, Operation Brown Bag. Mike has held several Council officer positions over the years and jumps in where help is needed.

Mike Joined the Knights of Columbus Christopher Council January 1995, achieving the honors of the 4th Degree March 1997.

Ruben Melendez

Stop by at Holy Rosary any day of the week chances are that you will see Ruben. Ruben keeps himself busy as the Spanish liaison at food closet, considered the 2nd in command at the biweekly food distribution, Head usher at the noon Mass, Sacristan for Spanish Mass, and Fr. John’s physical assistant during his rehabilitation. Ruben is one of those go-to guys that you can call on at the last minute when you need something done.

Ruben joined the Knights of Columbus Christopher Council receiving the honors of the First Degree on May 13th, 2017. Ruben progressed through the ranks receiving the honors of the Fourth Degree on November 11, 2017.

February 2021

David Stepnowski

Knight of the month for February - is Sir Knight David J. Stepnowski. Dave joined Christopher Council October 20, 1999 achieving 4th degree on November 16th, 2016. Dave has been an active member of Christopher Council since joining. When Dave retired a little over a year ago, he has kicked his volunteerism into high gear. Dave is a regular at many council functions Operation Brown Bag, Coalition Food Distributions, and Fish Fry’s. Dave has no problem doing the heavy lifting grunt jobs. At OBB he frequently delivers the lunches to Emmanuel Dining Room. Coalition food distribution he in the middle of setting pallets of food, breaking down cardboard, and stacking empty pallets. At the fish fry’s he takes out the trash, washes dishes, and clean tables. Dave is active at Holy Rosary Church helping out with maintenance. Dave is one of those reliable Knights that you can count on to get the job done. Thank you, Dave, for your service


January 2021

Fr. John Gayton

Knight of the month for January is our Chaplain Fr. John Gayton.

Fr. John has been very active within Christopher Council supporting our activities. To date he has obtained grants totaling $40,000 to support Holy Rosary’s Food Closet, Operation Brown Bag, and the Claymont Coalition of Churches Food Distribution. As Pastor of Holy Rosary, he has offered space for Council functions and equipment that the Church has.

Fr. John Joined the Knights of Columbus June 8th, 1997 receiving the honor of the 4th Degree November 8th, 2017. Fr. John has been a priest for the past 34 years and pastor of Holy Rosary for many years. He is also the Chaplain of the Claymont Fire Company and a retired Navy Chaplain.

David Stepnowski

*Knight of the Month for December – Sir Knight Dave Stepnowski, with little notice, on December 11, 2020 Dave led the bi-weekly Coalition food distribution. Since the start of the council’s COVID-19 response activities, Dave has been instrumental with the food distribution and Operation Brown Bag and has rarely missed an event. Recently Dave learned that a brother Knight who didn’t drive was in need of assistance. The brother knight’s invalid wife needed a bed delivered. Dave delivered the bed and set it up for the family. Dave is a frequent volunteer at Holy Rosary Church live streaming Masses, Wednesday’s Food drop-off for the Food Closet, and general maintenance around the Church.

Dave joined the Knights of Columbus Christopher Council October 20,2009 achieving the honors of the 4th Degree on November 12, 2016. Dave is a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church

Thomas Cassidy

Knight of the Month for November – Tom Cassidy, Coats for Kids

Tom has chaired the Coats for Kids program for the past two years. Last year, the council’s first year participating in the program, we distributed 146 new, warm weather coats to the children of our parish and community. With Tom’s leadership, this year’s increased efforts enabled the Council to better than double the number of coats distributed to over 320. Many groups benefited - children of our parishes, Spring Church, Maple Lane Elementary School, Claymont Elementary School, Austin D. Baltz Elementary School, Gauger-Cobbs Middle School, Mifflin County PA Middle School, Ministry of Caring, Latin American Community Center, and Sweet Grace Ministry. The coats are still trickling in.

Tom joined the council August 1999 receiving his 1st Degree. Tom received the honors of the 4th degree November 22nd 2020. After recovering from serious health issues, Tom has become re-energized and has been very active with the council - biweekly food distributions and Operation Brown Bag. Thank you, Tom, for your service.


October 2020

John Garzia

John Garzia joined the Knights of Columbus, Christopher Council August 30, 2020 by participating in the Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity ceremony.

He joined Holy Rosary parish seven years ago after Immaculate Conception Church in Marcus Hook closed. He became active at Holy Rosary volunteering with church social/fundraising activities. He took part in organizing bus trips to Atlantic City, Phillies games, and volunteered at bingo. He is a frequent contributor to the food closet. With the pandemic, the food closet added Wednesday food drop at the church, at which Knights unload food. That is when John joined Christopher Council. Since then John has been consistently volunteering at Wednesday’s food drop and the Friday 5-C Outreach food distribution.

Matt Pinto

Matt Pinto, joined the Council August 31st, 2020 by participating in the Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity ceremony. In talking with Matt regarding how the Council raises funds to help support our Churches, and community, Matt informed me that he was a part time commercial crabber and was willing to organize a crab feast as a fundraiser. With the COVID-19 restrictions it was decided to conduct a crab sale on Saturday September 26th, 2020. Matt, with the assistance of several council Brothers presold crabs by the dozen. The customers were able to pick up the fresh cooked crabs with limited contact. This was a successful fundraiser adding $1,100 towards the council’s charitable efforts. Thank you for your service.

Bryan Gallagher

Bryan Gallagher joined the Knights of Columbus in May 1995 achieving 2nd degree knighthood. Bryan reactivated his membership, joining Christopher Council July 31, 2020 achieving full knighthood. Brian is employed at Holy Rosary in charge of maintenance. He frequently goes above and beyond his normal duties assisting Church groups & volunteers with their projects. Prior to, and after joining the council, Bryan has assisted the council with setting up and distributing food for the HRSA COVID-19 drive through food distribution. In Bryan’s short tenure with Christopher Council, he has recruited his nephew Matt Pinto into the council.

Deacon Richard Maichle

Deacon Rich Maichle. Deacon Rich retired after 40 years of active ministry to Holy Rosary. The Deacon was/is very active at Holy Rosary not only celebrating Sunday Masses, he celebrates daily Masses, baptisms, weddings, anointing of the sick, funerals, youth group, scouts, just to name few. The Deacon found time to be active in our council providing us with spiritual leadership, guidance, and friendship to his brother knights. The Deacon rarely missed a meeting and attended most all council fundraisers and activities. Recently the Deacon has been a steady volunteer at the Holy Rosary-Spring-Atonement Churches COVID-19 Food Distribution, Operation Brown Bag, and Holy Rosary’s Food Closet. The Deacon joined the Knights of Columbus, Christopher council on May 21st, 2005 advancing to 4th degree on November 21, 2009.


June 2020

Michael Lang

Knight of the Month for June is Mike Lang, Mike has been a member of the Council since 2015. Mike as recently became more involved in the Council participating in several Operation Brown Bags, Drive Through food distributions, and has given the Council positive press releases in the Dailog.


May 2020

William McCormac

On December 17, 2019, William “Billy” MacCormac followed his father and brother Ryan’s footsteps joining The Knights of Columbus, Christopher Council. Billy quickly became involved with the Council working community food distribution events. He has worked all three Holy Rosary / Spring Church drive through food distributions taking a leading roll setting up canopies, tables, cones and unloading pallets of bulk food. Billy has worked four Operation Brown Bag events and has delivered the bagged lunches to the three Emanuel Dining Room. Billy has helped with maintenance at the Brandywine Club. Billy is a fine example of what Knights are about, strong in your faith, family, active in your church and community. Billy a 2020 Graduate from Salesianum High School where he has received three religious awards for his community service work, one from Bishop Malooly and two from Salesianum. Billy will be attending DeSales University this fall majoring in Criminal Justice. Billy has been lifelong member of Holy Rosary actively serving as a Eucharistic Minister and Alter Server.

Tim Potts

Christopher Council’s Knight of the Month for April is Tim Potts. Tim joined the Council last September receiving his 1st degree, and achieved full Knighthood in November. Since joining, he has assisted in several council projects. Most recently, Tim has donated his time, talent, and resources to Operation Brown Bag. He has helped with the assembly of bagged lunches and delivery to the three dining rooms for all three weeks.


January 2020

Paul Coulston

Paul Coulston is the January's Knight of the Month. Paul is the Membership Director for the Council. He organized and lead our annual membership recruiting efforts which will culminate with the new Exemplification Degree at Holy Rosary on Sunday, February 16th at 3:00 pm.

Paul Rapposelli

After 14 years our Worthy Treasurer has passed on the calculator and checkbook. Paul has been a fixture in our Council dealing with financial matters for a long list of Grand Knights and has made their job much easier with his attention to detail and constant availability. For years, Paul has also served the designated Council "Christmas card salesman" and Keep Christ in Christmas representative at Parish bazaars. For these and his many other contributions leads us to name him Knight of the Month.

William Moschelle

As the person in charge of the Holy Rosary Carnival, Bill works tirelessly to make this event both a fun filled time and a financial success for the Parish. Despite the pressure of this event, Bill is always pleasant, helpful, and embodies all the qualities that a Knight of Columbus should exhibit.

Dave Stepnowski

Dave once again without being requested jumped in and filled a need by washing the dishes, pots and pans, and helped clean up the kitchen following our annual St. Pat's Party. As we all know this is a thankless task that people often fail to recognize but our Council did notice and we wnat to make to thank Dave.


February 2017

Daniel Goodine

Recognizing that Dan volunteers to help at almost every Christopher Council event and is always there to help that Council in any way possible, he has exceeded our expectations this month. Dan had proposed that the Council sell soup following the Masses at St. Helena and Holy Rosary to benefit our Council and the Community Outreach programs at both Parishes. Dan took control of this new program and began sales the weekend February 4 and the results have been "souper". The sales at St. Helena will continue through February and the Council will begin sales of soup at Holy Rosary during Lent. Dan thanks for all you do for the Council and in particular for starting this fundraiser.


January 2017

Jack Buckley

Jack was extremely helpful in assisting Brain Dennis with the Christmas Parade and exhibited true fraternity, charity and unity at the Parade and the after-party. Additionally, Jack was involved with the cooking and preparation for the Council's Christmas Party. These actions, coupled with Jack's routine assistance throughout the year merit his recognition as the Knight of the Month.

David DeVito

David only joined Christopher Council in May but he has participated in so many Council activities since becoming a member that it seems like he has been a member of our Council for years. His help at the State Picnic was invaluable and his enthusiasm is contagious.


August 2016

Ronald Bock

Ron helped with the cleaning of our Council Chambers which included washing and cleaning the walls, rearranging the Council's awards and plaques, cleaning the lights fixtures, and helping get the Council Chambers ready for some audio-visual upgrades. Ron responded to our last minute request for help and his actions exemplify what makes our Council so special.


August 2016

Patrick Mac Cormac

Pat was an important part of our effort to upgrade our Council Chambers. He installed the wiring for our flat screen in the Council Chambers by climbing behind walls and running the cables throughout the building. He also helped upgrade the WiFi service and this will be instrumental in our Council being able to stream videos from Supreme Council and to use our new audio-visual equipment during events and to enhance our ceremonies.

William Northey

Bill was chosen as the Knight of the month for his assistance at the Green Day event in Claymont. Bill is always there for the Council and his help at Green Day was just another example of his dedication and commitment to our Council.
