Robert Barnell
Our StMM Brother Robert Barnell is a Seminarian attending Mount Saint Mary's of the West in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Robert is twenty-seven years old and was born in Louisville. His parents are from Indiana but now live in Kentucky. He has an older sister and an older brother, who both live out of town. Robert is a graduate of St. Margaret Mary grade school, St. Xavier High School, and Indiana University, where he majored in Spanish and geography. Robert then moved to Indianapolis to work at the Catholic Charities Refugee Program. He loves maps and languages. During college Robert spent a semester on the Mexican border, and in the fall of 2011 spent two months with the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, India.
Robert was interested in the priesthood since early high school, when he would feel joy during Mass when he'd think about being a priest. He started attending some discernment events, but didn't consider going to seminary right away. By late college, he still felt a desire to go to seminary but didn't feel ready to pursue the vocation, so Robert started a job. The next winter he went on a discernment retreat, and felt very excited. A while later Robert finally decided to quit his job and move back to louisville, where he later started the application process.
Robert had fears and doubts about God's will for his life, and kept waiting for more clarity, but eventually decided to go forward and apply, trusting that God is good and will ultimately lead him to and equip him for whatever He wants Robert to do.
Congratulations Robert!

Don Newland
Brother Donald was admitted to Archdiocese of Louisville Diaconate Formation Program. This five - year program, when completed, will result in the ordination of Don to the Permanent Diaconate in August 2020.
Don and Susan Newland begin their Aspirancy period of one year in July, 2015. This will be a period of personal discernment for them. It will be focused on an overview of most of the elements and challenges of diaconal service. Particular attention will be placed on prayer, spiritual development, personal introspective work and exploration of the call to diaconal service. The purpose of the year is to explore the questions of “Who am I?” – “Why am I here?” – “Am I supposed to be here?” and “Do I want to be here?”
After the Aspirancy period, Don and Susan will be enrolled at Saint Meinrad for four years of religious studies. Additionally, they will have monthly meetings with their deacon mentor couples and spiritual directors, and be expected to attend certain diaconate community functions and retreats.
These Candidacy years are very demanding of the couples’ time, and mental and physical energy. During this challenging program please offer your support to Don and Susan and keep them in your prayers.
Congratulations Don!

Kyle Justice
Brother Kyle volunteered to serve as our Council Safe Environment Training (SET) Coordinator. Within a month he has fully updated our Council SET records with data provided by the StMM Parish Office. The Archdiocese of Louisville is committed to ensuring that children and youth who worship, study or participate in church-sponsored activities can do so in the safest and most secure setting possible. In an effort to fulfill this commitment, all volunteers who have regular contact with children or youth are required to participate in one of the Safe Environment Training Workshops.
These workshops cover the following topics: - Identifying signs of child sexual abuse - Understanding the dynamics of child sexual abuse, including how children are groomed and how they may attempt to reveal their experience - How to take action in response to child sexual abuse, including obligation to report and caring for the abused child - Becoming familiar with archdiocesan policies and Code of Conduct regarding work with children
In addition, Kyle is scheduling StMM Knights to lead Pre-game Prayers at all Home Basketball games in support of the Parish Play Like a Champion Today (PLACT) program. For the first supported StMM Games on 31 Jan & 01 Feb Brothers Otto Knop, Sean Holley, Bob Miller, David Springer, & Bill Moriarity volunteered to lead the Pre-Game Prayers.
