Don, Beth, and Reed Sawicki

The Family of the Year is awarded annually to the family that best exemplifies the model Knight of Columbus family in every respect, as demonstrated by their devotion to their Catholic faith, their community, and to each other. There are many families within our council that deserve this award. But one family throughout the year has been present, at every major event, donating time, and often talents. I would ask Donavon and Bethany Sawicki to stand and be recognized as the 2016 Family of the Year. Don travels all week long and is still down here putting time in either setting up for events or cleaning on Saturdays and Sundays often by himself. When I cannot get any Brother Knights that can help with last minute things, I can call Beth, and she will rush to wherever we are needed and fill in, sometimes with their son Reed. Reed not only donated his Wii to the Hall, but he hooked it up and entertained Noah, which after an hour probably qualifies him for Youth of the Decade!! But Family of the Year is not just council and community based. Devotion to Catholic Faith and each other. Without going in to much personal detail; I watched as Don and Beth came to the aid of a close family member who needed help and support. They used their Faith and presence in St. Mary’s Parish to positively lift that family member up and get to where they need to be. I joined them a few times for Mass and to hear their family member talk about their renewed Faith, says it all. Thank you for setting the example of what is most important, our own Families! Another round of applause for the Sawicki’s!
