September 2022

Tom and Helen Singer

I was born in Howell, MI and at birth received the two greatest gifts to start life, being born into
a catholic family and being born in this country.
Helen and I were married in St. Ann’s chapel in Grosse Ile, MI. St Ann’s is part of Sacred Heart
Parish. We lived on the island for almost 8 years and were members of Sacred Heart. During
that time we were both working, Helen as a research chemist and me as a chemical engineer. I
worked for Gage Products Company in Ferndale.
In 2002 we moved to Valparaiso, IN for an employment opportunity. We both went to work for
the same company and joined Our Lady of Sorrows parish. It was there that I became a Knight.
Gage Products Company asked me to come back to work for them, so in 2007 we moved to
Brighton. Although I quit working full time in 2012, Gage still calls me to do projects for them.
We became members of St. Patrick’s. My K of C membership was transferred to Council 7304.
We greatly enjoy the volunteer opportunities as part of the Knights of Columbus. Helen works
the rummage sale pretty much from beginning to end and we do other things like the blood
drive, the scrap metal drive, selling Tootsie Rolls and putting up the Right to Life crosses. Helen
also is a Gardening Angel. The best part of being a Knight is getting to know so many really
great people who are very devoted to the Church. I really miss working the pancake breakfasts
that came to a halt because of Covid, and hope they return soon.

August 2022

He was the cherished grandfather of Catrina (Kyle) Brunori, Maxwell, Michael, Allison, Claire and Kylene. Douglas was the dear brother of the late Edward. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Douglas spent his career working for Ford Motor Company retiring after 30 years of service. His faith was very important to him, and he was active in both his church and the Knights of Columbus. Douglas enjoyed spending time at his property up north, and a good cigar.

their life journeys. As for now we will continue serving St. Pat’s in various

February 2022

Chuck and Karen Nachtrab

First of all, on behalf of our family, I would like to humbly thank the Knights for this recognition.
Karen and I joined St. Patrick Parish in 1994, just before starting our family. We have three children, Michael 27(wife Kait), Ellie 24, and Katie 21. We’re blessed to call St. Patrick’s home and our hearts are truly touched by the many lifelong friendships we have made here. We have loved serving in many ministries over the years. Our involvement in Christ Renews His Parish retreats had a big impact in our call to grow in faith and service. I have treasured my involvement in the many service activities with the Knights as well as serving at liturgies. Our children have benefitted much by their involvement in youth group and attending St. Patrick school. Together, Karen and I are members of the St. Al’s sandwich team ministry. We are also blessed to be adult volunteers with our Young Church, leading small groups of high school students. We are always inspired by their faith and they help us to grow in ours as well.

January 2022

SK Dan and Lady Amy Zimmerman

We were married in 1991 and settled in Milford Michigan. We were in search of a parish and struggling to find a place to call our own. Our friends and family Phil and Phyllis Balmforth extended an invitation to us to come to their parish, St Patrick church for mass. After enjoying mass, fellowship and meeting the pastor, Father Tom, we felt so welcome and became members. We soon moved to Brighton. When Father Tom held our naked infant daughter Madeline up with one hand in the back of church during her baptism, It was one of those awesome moments that really sealed the deal and we knew we were “home”. We have many fond memories through the years of the kids sacraments, Christ Renews His Parish, Advent Tea, Church festivals and Knights of Columbus activities and we look forward to many more.

We are blessed with three beautiful daughters. Kaitlin Zimmerman (29) lives in Chicago, Claire Martin (28) was married here at St pats to Aaron Martin who with our first grandchild Wyatt moved back from Florida to Brighton this past summer. Wyatt was baptized here a few months back. Our youngest daughter is Madeline (24) an elementary school teacher in Holland Michigan.

About five years ago, once our kids moved on to start careers and lives of their own, we decided to downsize and move to a small house on the lake. After months of searching, we decided we did not want to leave the community of Brighton and our family at church. So we settled in on Island Lake here in town and continue to enjoy our friends and community at St Patrick!

Thanks to all our friends and family at St pats and may God Bless you all, Dan and Amy Z.

Mary has been an active member at St Patrick’s for
20 years. She is currently very active with
the Center for Hope (CFH) in Flint serving as

know Mary through the CFH Ministry by
providing transportation to Flint for the numerous
donations Mary collects in the Brighton Faith
Community.
Before the pandemic Mary was also involved with
Women Serving Women Veterans. Raising
money to help women veterans with PTSD primarily
through an equestrian program.
Mary has also been active as a sponsor in the RCIA

th grade CCD for three years with Brother

Welcoming desk on an occasional Sunday.
Mary has three daughters and four grandchildren.

November 2021

SK Brian and Lady Heidi Plott

I have had the honor of being a Knight since 2004. The work that the Knights do within our parish is nothing short of inspirational and blessed. I am humbled to work with such generous souls. While Covid did a number on our traditional fundraisers, the Knights continue to help those in need and work to find new ways to raise the monies needed to help the charities we support.

At yesterday's Corporate Communion, I was reminded that Knighthood is also about family. Our families processed into the church with us and as I looked around me at the friends I've made in the Knights, I also saw their families and realized how much I know them too. They have been supportive of my family, always asking about them and keeping them in their prayers. Since joining St. Pat's, God has blessed my family in so many ways. My wife was Baptized into the faith five years ago. Many of you know her (Heidi) and she has been so supportive of our activities. My youngest daughter and her husband were both brought into the faith in 2020 and their new daughter was baptized last year. We are blessed with 5 adult children, 4 spouses, 8 grandchildren and 1 on the way and they all love the Knights for the things we do. They miss our breakfasts and can't wait for them to start up again. They like helping with the Tootsie Roll Drive and other fundraisers. They are amazed when so many brother Knights come up to them before Mass to ask how they are doing and to offer a friendly, "hello". One big happy family!

As for me, I continue working with RCIA but in a support role. I usher most 11:30 Masses each week. I am emceeing the Men's Alpha and most importantly, I try to support the Knights in every way I can. I am humbled and honored to be a Knight of Columbus and blessed to be a part of such a wonderful organization. One last point that I would like to share; there is a lady who attends 11:30 Mass on Sundays and I often see her when we are greeting people at the door. I occasionally wear a Knights of Columbus shirt to Mass and it seems like every time I do, she comes up to me, points at the insignia, and says, "the Knights do great things. God bless the Knights of Columbus." Need I say more?

Thank you,
SK Brian Plott

Our three middle children (Grace- 7th grade, David- 4th grade, and Cameron-1st grade) attend St. Patrick School in Brighton where I, Carley Dunphey, also work as the school principal. It is an honor and a privilege to work with the staff, students, and families at St. Patrick Catholic School. She can't wait to join her siblings at St. Patrick School. We are active members at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brighton.
