SK Nick & Lynn DiBartolomeo Family

Nick and Lynn met at THE Ohio State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. Nick was a Senior and Lynn was a Freshman. After college Nick enlisted in the Army and served his enlistment stateside during the Viet Nam war – he mustered out as a “Spec-5” after serving 3 years as a Calibrationist Technician ending up at the Dugway Proving Ground in Utah. They got married 45 years ago while Nick was stationed in Utah and Lynn moved to Utah with him. After the Army they moved several times due to job changes having lived in New Jersey while Nick worked in New York City, and then on to Cleveland, Cincinnati, Nashville and Atlanta before winding up in Louisville.

Both of their daughters ( Janice and Laura ) were born while they lived in New Jersey. Along the way Lynn earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati and began a career as an Orthopedic Nurse at various hospitals where they lived.

Nick worked in Sales & Marketing at various companies with his final corporate positions as Vice President of Marketing for a window manufacturer and then a vinyl siding manufacture in Bardstown. Frustrated with the instability in the management ranks within the corporate world Nick started his own company as an Independent Sales Rep selling building material products to various distributors in the Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky area. He intends to retire in March of 2017 and focus on his hobbies – woodworking and model trains, as well as spending more time with his 3 Grandkids and some volunteer work.

Lynn retired from the Orthopedic unit at Baptist Hospital East several years ago and now enjoys her sewing crafts, working various crafts shows each Fall and spending time with the Grandchildren. She is also involved at St. Margaret Mary helping office staff stuffing Sunday bulletins for Mass and has recently joined the StMM Parish Prayer Blanket group knitting prayer blankets for the sick.

Lynn & Nick have been attending Mass at St. Margaret Mary since 1998. Nick Joined the Knights of Columbus in early May of 2014 and earned his 2nd and 3rd Degrees later that month. Transferring in to the St. Margaret Mary Council when the council started up he took on the position of Financial Secretary. Nick is the only Council Officer directly appointed by our Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. Nick serves StMM KofC Council in one capacity or another on a DAILY basis by completing reports, updating our member records with Supreme, processing Form 100's, collecting and forwarding Council Dues and other charitable funds just to name a few. In addition, Nick fully participates in the many fraternal, charitable, and volunteer activities of our StMM KofC Council including serving as a founding member of the StMM 1st Degree Team. Nick attained his 4th Degree in October of 2015.

Nick also participates on the St. Margaret Mary Grounds Crew when time permits helping to trim shrubs, pick weeds, spread mulch and rake leaves around the parish grounds.

We are proud to recognize FS Nicholas & Lynn DiBartolomeo for their ongoing service to StMM Parish and our local community as our StMM June 2016 Family of the Month.

May 2016

Keith & Susan Senn Family

Brother Keith, Susan, and their sons Alex, a University of Kentucky (UK) 2016 graduate, and Hunter, a UK Junior, volunteer with the Hand in Hand Ministries Appalachian Auxier, KY Center. Auxier had its start around 1900 as a coal town. The community was named for the local Auxier family. Floyd County is one of the poorest areas in the country–over 75% of the schoolchildren live in homes below the poverty level. The Auxier Center was established at the behest of Rev. Ralph Beiting of the Christian Appalachian Project to address the needs of the area and become a hub for community activities. Hand in Hand helps local residents with a food bank, clothing and household needs, educational resources and home repair. With nearly 40% unemployment, the need far exceeds the resources available in the area.

Susan participates in StMM Women's Bible Study, is a volunteer substitute Teacher at StMM School, and has coached Girl's Volleyball.

Keith and Susan also volunteer with the Louisville Dare to Care Food Bank. 1 in 6 people in Kentuckiana doesn’t get enough to eat to live a healthy life! And for children, the statistic is even grimmer — 1 in 5. That makes it pretty likely that you know somebody who is affected. These folks aren’t going to ask you for help.

Keith has long served week after week on the Fry Crew in the Prep Kitchen at our StMM Parish Lenten Fish Frys. Keith has volunteered as a StMM Football, Soccer, Basketball, and Volleyball Coach over the years.

Keith and Susan have served as StMM Summer Parish Picnic Booth Chairmen over several years.

Brother Keith has been our Treasurer since the formation of our StMM Council. He continues to serve the Council by closely watching over our expenses and bank balance.

Keith and Susan served on a volunteer mission trip to rural Guatemala with Children of the Americas, Inc. (COTA). COTA is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing necessary medical and surgical services to indigent children and their families throughout the world. COTA enhances the health and wellbeing of underserved women and children in developing countries through international collaboration. Since 1987 COTA has identified specific medical needs of patients through volunteer medical/surgical mission teams and by referrals from other agencies. The teams of volunteer staff provide medical services and surgeries on-site in Central America within the realm of our expertise. Networking with Central American hospital administrators and physicians is done whenever possible in order to share medical/surgical knowledge between cultures. Patients identified in the field as having more complex or serious medical needs are referred to the United States for donated care. Those patients are placed with foster families for the duration of their stay in the United States. In addition, the organization coordinates shipments of donated medical equipment and supplies to be distributed to hospitals in Guatemala that provide services to indigent children and their families.

We are proud to recognize Treasurer Keith and Susan Senn for their ongoing service to StMM Parish and our local community as our StMM June 2016 Family of the Month.

Deacon Derrick & Mistianna Barnes Family

Deacon Derrick and Mistianna Barnes give of themselves unselfishly to the Church at St Margaret Mary Catholic Community week after week; Derick in his Ordained Ministry and Mistianna with organizing Faith Formation events and activities for the Ladies of the Parish. While many Deacons are retired from active employment Derrick does all this while working full time to support his family.

We are proud to recognize Derrick & Mistianna Barnes as our StMM January 2015 Family of the Month

Rick & Kristin Tobe Family

Our StMM Brother Rick Tobe and his wife Dr Kristin just adopted their daughter Grace; a difficult process which extended over some two years.

Recently, Pope Francis reminded us that Christian families “are the domestic church where Jesus grows in the love of a married couple, in the lives of their children.”

Rick & Kristin and their two daughers Madeline and Grace are fine examples of how our families can realize more fully their mission to be an authentic domestic church through daily prayer, catechesis and Scripture reading, as well as through monthly charitable and volunteer projects they can do as a family.

To help all our families better become what they are called to be, the Knights of Columbus has launched an initiative entitled: “Building the Domestic Church: The Family Fully Alive.” Through this program, our Catholic families can realize more fully their mission to be an authentic domestic church through daily prayer, catechesis, and Scripture reading, as well as through monthly charitable and volunteer projects as a family: kofc.org/familyfullyalive

We are proud to recognize Rick & Kristin Tobe for their commitment to life as our StMM December 2014 Family of the Month.
