PRIETO, Alfonso P. 99, passed away August 4, 2017, in his sleep at his home in Tucson, Arizona. Alfonso "Al" was born on March 25, 1918 in Mexico City and two years later immigrated with his parents to the state of Texas. In August 1942, Al married the former Mary Diaz in Oslo, Minnesota. When America entered into WWII, Al served with the US Army from December 1942 through December 1945, serving in Canada and Alaska working and later serving in the South Pacific with the 140th Quartermaster Truck company supporting the Marines in Iwo Jima in March 1945. After his service to his country, Al and Mary settled in Lorain, Ohio where they raised their family. He worked as a pipefitter at the former National Tube, now US Steel plant, working himself up to a Maintenance Manager in the Seamless Pipe Mills and retired after 31 years of service. In the summer of 1978, Al and Mary moved to Tucson, Arizona. Al was active with the South Tucson Lions Club and was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. In Lorain, Ohio he was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 1104, the US Steel Management Club and the Mexican American Citizens Club. Al is survived by daughters, Irene Prieto and Cristina (Glen) Cioca of Tucson; sons, Al Jr. (Phyllis) of Huron, Ohio; David (Jane) of North Ridgeville, Ohio; Vincent (Martha) of Lorain, Ohio and Jaime of Tucson. He has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation/Rosary 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway Blvd., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Services will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd. Burial following Mass at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery, 2151 S. Avenida Los Reyes. |
