Joseph J. Banchy, Sr. was born in Portsmouth, Ohio January 17, 1928 and moved to Tucson in 1981. He lived many years with Alzheimer's and passed away February 27, 2007. He was honorably discharged from service to his country in both the Army and the Navy. He served the City of Portsmouth, Ohio as a firefighter retiring with 27 years of service, rising to the position as Assistant Fire Chief. He was also a respiratory therapist and most important, a loving husband and father of seven. He instilled the values of honesty, loyalty, integrity and most important, family. Joseph had a respect for education, a strong work ethic, and a quirky sense of humor and will be missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Veronica of 56 years; daughters, Mary Banchy-Dancer (TX), Rebecca Banchy-Mcllwain (Scott) (OH) and Annmarie Banchy (NZ); sons, Patrick J. (NY), Michael J. (Pam) (OH), John T. (Annette) (AZ) and Joseph . Jr. (AZ); grandchildren, Gregory Burchett (Anna) (AL), Jacob D. Mcllwain (Samantha) (NC), Sara R. Banchy (OH), Justin Banchy (OH), Samantha Banchy (AZ), Jessica Kelli Banchy (AZ), Mark Banchy (OH) and Matthew Hadorn (NZ); brothers, William (Vivian), Paul (Midge); sisters, Helen Hurly, Gertrude Hartz, Mary Ann Lang (Lee) and over 70 nieces and nephews. He will join his brothers and sisters who preceded him, Olga, Martha, Ruth, George, Mark and Tunus and his parents, George and Helen. A l\tlemorial Mass to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco, Tucson, AZ 85710. In lieu offlowers, we ask that donations be made in Joseph's name to St. Vincent de Paul Society (c/o St. Francis de Sales Church).
