John A. Metzler, age 90, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howie Metzler and son-in-law, John Franks. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Byrne Metzler; children Thomas Metzler (Kathleen), John Metzler, Gerard Metzler, Ellen Franks, Mary Ann Munoz (Sam), Karen Olcha (Keith), Jeannie Rapp (T.J.), Patti Taylor (Phil); grandchildren, Mary Burch (Matt), Sarah Metzler, Laura Acton (Jimmy), Diana Montoya (Michael), Tim Metzler, Sammy Munoz, Kimberly Holliday (Ryan), Matthew Olcha, Jackie Rapp and Victoria Rapp; great grandchildren, Haley Metzler, Audrey Montoya, Jacob Montoya, Allison Acton and his sister, Gladys Dillemuth (Don). John was born in Brooklyn, NY. He was a devoted family man, dedicated father, and loving husband. He joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old and served during World War II. His service took him to the Invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach. John had a 38 year long career with American Airlines which brought him to Texas in 1979. He was active with the Knights of Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Knight, Grand Knight of council 7641, and a district deputy. John was an active volunteer with St. Francis in Grapevine, Meals on Wheels and the Southlake Senior Center. John was an avid bowler, who drank beer and smoked cheap cigars. He was loved and will be missed by his family and many friends.
